MS in Energy Systems Management (ESM) co-hosted an ESM Speaker Series with Young Professionals in Energy (YPE) at USF’s downtown campus with Maddie Brown ESM MS ’19, Marisa Sweeney and Mark Weitzel. The moderator was Mike Lowell ESM MS ’19, Policy Director and Development Engineer at Amber Kinetics, who is currently working on increasing local energy resilience with an emphasis on microgrids and trans-active energy.

Maddie Brown ESM MS ’19 is working at Borrego Solar as a project finance associate. She is currently working on M&A transactions for commercial-scale solar and storage projects. Prior to Borrego, she worked at Tesla as a project manager in new markets and energy deployment. Maddie received a master’s degree in energy systems management from USF, and a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and environmental studies from University of Vermont.
Marisa Sweeney is an investment professional at Generate Capital, a finance company that partners with project developers and technology manufacturers in the renewable energy, technology, and sustainability sectors. Prior to Generate, Marisa worked in New York as a strategy analyst at Onyx Renewable Partners, a Blackstone Portfolio Company. Marisa has a bachelor of arts degree in politics philosophy and law and a bachelor of science degree in management/finance from Binghamton University (SUNY).
Mark Weitzel is a partner in Orrick’s San Francisco office, and is a member of the firm’s global energy and infrastructure practice. He has more than 30 years of experience in the financing, development, acquisition and sale of energy and infrastructure projects and companies. With a background in finance, tax and energy, Mark focuses on structuring complex equity and debt investments, and negotiating investment, shareholder and joint venture agreements. He has a particular focus on tax and cash equity financing of renewable energy projects, including in the solar and wind space. Mark is a recognized leader in the field. He is the former co-chair of Orrick’s global energy and infrastructure practice, and has been recognized as one of America’s leading energy lawyers by Chambers, Legal 500, Best Lawyers in America, and Law360. Mark is a frequent speaker on energy projects and infrastructure investments.
